What Do Indian Serfs Do

An Archive of Administrative Evisceration

The most intimate act of human agency—the selection of a life partner—has, in the mind of the Indian serf, become an administrative procedure.

The serf does not ask, “Do I love this person?” or “Do we share a life vision?” Instead, they ask the State, “Is this union permissible under your various acts and codes?”

This is the Judicial Blessing. It is the absolute surrender of personal sovereignty to a magistrate who has no stake in the individual’s happiness, only in the maintenance of “public order” and “systemic continuity.” By seeking this blessing, the serf validates the State’s claim that it owns the individual’s body and soul.
